Visiting your GP to investigate your back pain problem
Your GP will be able to tell you if your problem is likely to
settle or whether further investigations are necessary. He or she
can also check whether there is any chance you are suffering from a
more serious condition.
But
for up to one in 10 people suffering from back pain, it can persist
and be much more troublesome. Lasting back pain is the second most
common cause of long term disability and work-related absence. Even
if it does not affect sufferers’ working lives it can make it
harder for them to live a normal life or do the sports and
activities they enjoy. It also affects their sleep and may be
linked to feelings of depression.
The exact cause can be hard to pinpoint and many sufferers will
have tried treatments such as physiotherapy or osteopathy before
they are referred to a consultant.
